WHEN YOU ARE ON A JOB , UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES MAY ARISE IN WHICH YOU ARE ASKED TO WAIVE A TERM OR CONDITION OF A CONTRACT. Perhaps they need relief from turnaround time or meal penalties. Perhaps you might be asked to start 15 minutes earlier and not sign in 15 minutes earlier or work 5 to 10 minutes after you have signed out.
There are circumstances in which some consideration of the request may seem entirely reasonable or even necessary. DON'T DO IT. It is the responsibility of the Job Steward to first determine the facts and then to poll the crew (if appropriate) on an issue and then it will be the Job Steward's responsibility to obtain the approval of the Business Agent. NO ONE has the right to waive terms or conditions of the contract without the approval of the Business Agent. There are often more people affected by these situations than may be apparent to any one person. Sometimes the consequences are not as obvious or simple as they may appear. Consideration can be given , but not by a member in the field who may be under pressure from the employer the decision must come from the Office. When you are asked for these considerations , you may inform your employer that you are willing to find an answer for them but that you must follow the correct procedures for dealing with contractual questions.
